How to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

As much as I love summer, especially since the Pacific Northwest only has 2-3 good sunny months, there's something exciting about the first hints of fall. The mornings are cooler, the afternoons may be warmer and then the evenings feel crisp so that's the perfect opportunity to start layering.
I also love mixing fabrics this time of year. Pair a breezy cotton blouse with denim, add a lightweight sweater over a sleeveless dress, or wear a linen top with darker jeans. It's an easy way to make your summer favorites work a little longer.
The good news? You don't need an entirely new wardrobe. Some of your favorite summer pieces can easily carry you into fall with a few simple styling tricks.

Find Fall in your wardrobe: Start with What You Already Own
Before heading out to shop, take a look in your own closet.
One of my favorite styling tips is to start with the pieces you already love and simply add a few fall layers. A summer dress looks completely different when paired with a denim jacket and ankle boots. Your favorite white tee instantly feels fall-ready under a blazer or cozy cardigan.
Shopping your own closet first often helps you discover outfits you forgot you had.
Challenge Moment ---look at your closet and pick two or three toppers that you have rarely worn and pair them with a summer top and a pair of your favorite jeans or crops as the weather is still warm in the afternoons. That way you will really see if you still like that long lost piece or need to let it go on to someone else through a clothing swap or donation to a women focused charity like Dress for Success or women's shelter.
Layers Make All the Difference for Seasonal Transitions
Layering is the secret to transition dressing.
This time of year, temperatures can change throughout the day, so wearing pieces you can easily add or remove keeps you comfortable without sacrificing style.
Some of my favorite layering pieces include:
Denim jackets
Lightweight cardigans
Utility jackets
Relaxed blazers
Thin sweaters

These pieces work with dresses, skirts, jeans, and trousers, making them some of the hardest-working items in your closet.
Celeste's Styling Tip: If you're only adding one new piece this fall, make it a great jacket. It instantly elevates basics and gives you dozens of new outfit combinations.
Swap Your Shoes Before You Swap Your Clothes
Sometimes the easiest way to make an outfit feel more like fall is by changing your shoes.
Trade sandals for ankle boots, loafers, fashion sneakers, or mules. You'll instantly create a more seasonal look while still wearing many of your favorite summer pieces.
It's one of those small changes that makes a surprisingly big impact.

Don't Forget the Finishing Touches
Accessories are where your personality really shines.
A lightweight scarf, layered necklaces, a structured handbag, or even a great belt can completely change the feel of an outfit.
These finishing touches not only complete your look but also add just enough warmth for those cooler mornings and evenings.

Ready for Fall?
Transition dressing doesn't have to be complicated. With a few versatile layers, the right shoes, and thoughtful accessories, you'll be ready for whatever the season brings.
But if you've ever stood in front of a full closet and still felt like you had nothing to wear, you're definitely not alone. Sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes to help you see new outfit possibilities with the clothes you already own.
